Want to make a present? Stop by the Library for a take & make kit with supplies for making a handmade gift!

Friday, December 9th: Christmas Card Day!

Supplies will be available to patrons to make their own holiday cards!

Saturday, December 10th: Dewey Decimal System Day

Join us throughout the day for a chance to try our Dewey Scavenger Hunt for a prize!

Monday, December 12th: Gingerbread House Day

SBCP Library Staff will each create their own gingerbread house. Help us decide by voting for which one you think is the best!

Tuesday, December 13th: Cocoa Day

Cookies and Cocoa will be offered to patrons after their library visit!

Thursday, December 15th/Friday, December 16th: Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

SBCP Library Staff will wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters on Thursday and patrons will vote on their picks for Best Ugliest, Most Festive, and Most Original Sweater. The winners will be announced Friday the 16th!

Tuesday, December 20th: Go Caroling Day

The library will have holiday music lightly playing throughout the day.

Wednesday, December 21st: Crossword Puzzle Day

Holiday and Library-themed Crossword Puzzles will be available to play at the library!

Tuesday, December 27th: Make a Cut-Out Snowflake Day

Supplies will be available for patrons to create their own paper cutout snowflakes!

Telescopes, Gardening Tools, and More: Help the SBCP Library Create our Library of Things!

The Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library is in the process of developing a Library of Things collection!
A Library of Things allows patrons to temporarily check out items such as home improvement tools and baking supplies the same way you would a book or DVD. This allows you access to the item without needing to worry about costs or long-term storage. Let us know what you would like to be able to check out through the Library from the list below, or add any new suggestions!

Escape From Hawkins High In Our “Stranger Things”-themed Escape Room!

Find all of the clues to escape our Stranger Things Escape Room!

The escape room is available to teens and adults for free with registration required. The escape room sessions will be at 4 PM for teens and 5 PM for adults Monday, October 31st, and Tuesday, November 1st for 45-minute sessions each. You can register as a group of 10, groups of 4-5, or individually. If you register individually, you will be paired with others who have registered for that time. If you register as a group, please use the name and contact information for the contact person for the group when registering.

Learn more about Healthy foods at After-School Nutrition Classes!

SBCPL is hosting after-school nutrition classes presented by Yesenia Lira-Garcia from the UT Extension office for children of all ages (preferably 3rd grade & up) on Thursdays at 3:30 PM from October 27th to December 1st (except for November 24th, due to the library being closed for Thanksgiving holiday).

What are the Nutrition classes about?

Children will learn new recipes and how to read them, some basic cooking skills, information about healthy eating, and a physical activity. Space is limited, and parents are required to attend with their children. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible!

Summer Reading 2022: Thank you!

The Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library was proud to present our Summer Reading Program this year!

SBCP Library registered almost 350 Summer Reading participants and had 2301 children, teens, and adults in attendance to in-person events over the weeks of Summer Reading. The 73 programs included performers, authors, crafts, STEAM activities, and Bookmobile. The Library would like to thank all of the children, teens, parents, grandparents, and anyone else who attended these programs! This year’s Summer Reading Program would not have been a success without your participation.

Have a spooky fun time at our Halloween Bash! (Volunteers Needed)

Join us for our Halloween Bash!

Volunteers needed! Please fill out the contact form below or email youthservices@sbcplibrary.org if you are interested in volunteering for our Halloween Bash!

The Library will be having a Halloween Bash! Starting from 1 to 4 PM Saturday October 29th! Children and their parents are free to stop by our Community Room to play carnival games for treats, along with our fall backdrop set up for parents to use if they would like to take pictures of their children in their Halloween costumes; we will provide the backdrop and seats, but patrons would need to use their own phones or cameras.

Teens ‘N’ Seniors

The Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library has received the SeniorTrust Digital Literary Grant with which we want to start the “Teens ‘N’ Seniors prgoram. The Grant is designed to help people over the after of 60 with new technology and learning how too use devices to communicate and stay connected.
